NEW TO ELIM?

Welcome! We are looking forward to meeting you and making you feel at home. Here are some answers to questions you may have when you come to worship with us.

Which entrance should I use?
The main entrance is at the corner of Broadway and 40th. The east door by the parking lot (chapel entrance) is also open. Both are handicap-accessible.

What should I wear?
You’ll see everything from jeans and t-shirt to dresses with heels or suits and ties. Please simply wear whatever is comfortable and feels appropriate to you.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
Not at all. We would like you to fill out a visitor’s card so that we can find out a little more about what brought you here. We’re just glad to have you worshipping with us.

Are children welcome in worship?
Children are an important part of our community — Elim LOVES our kids! — and we encourage their participation in worship. Purple Busy Bags (filled with books, crayons, and children’s bulletins) can be found at the entrance to the sanctuary (the main worship space). If you prefer, we have a nursery available for children 3 and under during worship services. Children are also welcome to attend Sunday School.

What about Communion?
Communion is celebrated the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Elim celebrates Holy Communion with an open table. All who believe that Christ is truly present in the bread and wine are welcome. Grape juice and gluten-free wafers are available. We offer the wine in small individual cups. Sometimes Communion is distributed at the altar rail and sometimes at stations — just follow the directions of the ushers, or feel free to ask someone around you for directions. You are also welcome to remain seated instead of receiving Communion if you prefer. If you are unable to rise for communion, it will be brought to you at your pew.

What is your music like?
Music is an important part of worship and our ministry. We love to sing! We have a pipe organ, grand piano, an adult choir, a children’s choir, and a handbell choir. We use hymns from the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal as well as alternate music from a variety of sources and cultures. Many Sundays we also sing the liturgical responses, all of which are printed in the bulletin. We offer large print bulletins and also use a large screen at the front of the sanctuary with large fonts for the entire service and hymn singing.
