Would you like to explore some of life’s biggest questions?  Why are we here on earth?  What does God have to do with my daily life?  How can I understand the Bible?
Perhaps you should try Alpha!  Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith.  During an 11-week timeframe, each session looks at a different question about faith; and each session is designed to create conversation.  It’s an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.
We will hold Alpha sessions this Fall on Wednesday evenings, September 11 through December 4 (with a few breaks), from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Dinner hour is between 5:00-6:00pm.  If you have any questions about faith, Christianity, or just need someone to talk to before Alpha begins, contact Pastor Marcia Rosa, 763-537-8481.
What does Alpha look like?
There isn’t really an average Alpha.  Alpha is hosted in local communities all around the world, and everyone’s welcome.  It occurs in cafes, churches, bars, prisons, parks, universities, schools, homes–you name it!  Here at Elim, we host Alpha during our Wednesday night community night following the dinner hour at 5:00pm.  Alpha has three components: food, a video talk, and discussion.  Check out experiences and other FAQs at alphausa.org.  Youth as young as middle school are mature enough to take this class.  Elim is looking to start a youth-only session soon.
Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together.  It’s no different at Alpha.  We will share a nice meal together because it’s a great way to build community and get to know each other.  Meals will be provided for both adults and children in our Elim gym from 5:00-6:00pm.  A free-will offering is accepted, but not expected.
Video Talks
The talks are designed to inspire conversation.  They are usually around thirty minutes long, given via video.  They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can I make the most out of the rest of my life?
Probably the most important part of Alpha is the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas on the evening’s topic, and to simply discuss it in a small group.  There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say.  It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and open environment.
