We are looking forward to meeting you and making you feel at home. Here are some answers to questions you may have when you come to worship with us.

Which entrance should I use?

The main entrance is at the corner of Broadway and 40th. The east door by the parking lot (chapel entrance) is also open. Both are handicap-accessible.

What should I wear?

You’ll see everything from jeans and t-shirt to dresses with heels or suits and ties. Please simply wear whatever is comfortable and feels appropriate to you.

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?

Not at all. We would like you to fill out the “Get Connected” card so that we can find out a little more about what brought you here. We’re just glad to have you worshiping with us.

Are children welcome in worship

Children are an important part of our community — Elim LOVES our kids! — and we encourage their participation in worship. Purple Busy Bags (filled with books, crayons, and children’s bulletins) can be found at the entrance and in the sanctuary (the main worship space). We also have a “Kid Zone” in the commons area for kids interested in louder play. We value families worshiping together and strive to be inclusive of all ages. Children are also welcome to attend Sunday School.

What about Communion?

Communion is celebrated the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. Elim celebrates Holy Communion with an open table. All who believe that Christ is truly present in the bread and wine are welcome. Grape juice and gluten-free wafers are available. We offer the wine in small individual cups. Sometimes Communion is distributed at stations — just follow the directions of the ushers, or feel free to ask someone around you for directions. You are also welcome to remain seated instead of receiving Communion if you prefer. If you are unable to rise for communion, it will be brought to you at your pew.

What is your music like?

Music is an important part of worship and our ministry. We love to sing!
At our 9:15am service we have a pipe organ, grand piano, an adult choir and a handbell choir. We use hymns from the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal as well as alternate music from a variety of sources and cultures. Many Sundays we also sing the liturgical responses, all of which are printed in the bulletin. We offer large print bulletins as well, just ask an Usher for one.
Located in the chapel, our 11:00am contemporary service has a revival feel and is different from our typical Sunday service. Inside our charming chapel, you will experience classic gospel music with some soul-lifting, toe-tapping sounds. Christopher Hollister, front-man of the local Irish folk band Broken Spoke, will lead music with his country/bluegrass style. Come and try it out!
